NumisMedia Weekly Market Report

Top Rarities Highlight Heritage CSNS Signature Sale

May 11, 2026

The recent Central States Numismatic Society Convention in Schaumburg, Illinois was typical of most shows over the last few years. Bullion trading is leading the way with numismatic coins lagging behind. Dealers have ways of making shows profitable, but are still finding it difficult to acquire want list items for their clients. This appears to be the nature of the numismatic beast going forward, many of today's rarities are being held in strong hands and are not likely to come on the market any time soon.
Heritage Auctions always finds ways to attract bidders to their sales, with top rarities to highlight and quality throughout the entire auction catalog. The Central States Signature Sale contained a nice variety of collector coins with a tremendous selection of PCGS Standing Liberty Quarters with Full Heads, many we have listed below. Please check the Heritage website for a complete list of prices realized from the Central States Signature Auction.
1879 $4 Gold Coiled Hair certified by NGC PR67 Cameo

The 1879 $4 Gold with Coiled Hair is typically the top highlight in any major auction. With just twenty coins minted and only about fifteen at the most known to exist, most collectors can only dream about adding one to their collection. The coin in this sale is certified by NGC as PR67 Cameo and it realized $2,135,000. Because of possible resubmissions, the actual number certified in this grade differs in the population reports, but there are only three or four coins certified in this grade, all by NGC. But what we definitely know, this is one of the top rarities in numismatics today and is sought after by many collectors when made available.

1933 $10 Gold Indian certified by PCGS MS65 and CAC

The 1933 $10 Gold Indian had a relatively high mintage at over 300,000, but with the recall of Gold in 1933, all mint stockpiles were melted, leaving just the few that had been distributed. Today there are estimated to be less than forty coins known in all grades. The population reports indicate as many as sixteen coins certified in grades MS65 and higher with the PCGS MS66+ coin the highest. However, with the possibility of resubmissions, including the + designation and CAC coins, it is likely that there are just ten or eleven coins available in MS65 and higher. No matter, this is a rarity to be acknowledged and the PCGS MS65 with CAC approval in this sale realized $1,586,000.
