Stack's Bowers Sells Silver Dollar for $4.5 Million

November 17, 2025

As we are witnessing this historical run on precious metals, rare coins have continued to take a backseat to bullion related material. But the rarities market has been slowly strengthening, albeit mostly at lower levels. The Stack's Bowers Galleries recent auction exemplified the depth and character of rare coin collecting and we saw some quality coins sold for respectable prices, and some at new all-time highs. Stack's Bowers hosted lot viewing at the recent Whitman Baltimore Expo with the sale taking place in California last week.
Most recently, Gold and Silver reached their all-time highs at nearly $4,400 and $54 an ounce, respectively, but have since settled back to their current $4,078 and $50.95. The general consensus from most dealers is that bullion is certainly the top priority of most buyers in the current market, however, early rarities, especially Gold coins, are still in high demand from most dealers, collectors, and investors. The results from this sale indicate that there are still plenty of resolute buyers for rarities when they are available in the marketplace.
