There were two official auctioneers for the just completed 2018 ANA World's Fair of Money, and both provided many amazing rare coins including some famed rarities. At the Stack's Bowers Galleries Rarities Night, much of the attention was on the 1913 Liberty Head Nickel graded PCGS PR66 with CAC approval, which realized an astonishing final price of $4,560,000. Brought to auction from the family of Dr. William Morton-Smith, this coin was also once part of the Louis Eliasberg Sr. collection and is the finest of 5 known.

At the Heritage Auctions Platinum Night, the newly discovered 1854 S $5 Gold in NGC XF45 sold for $2,160,000. This is one of only four known coins, two others are in private hands and one is in the Smithsonian. Also highlighted, the 1796 Liberty Cap Half Cent with Pole in PCGS MS66+ CAC sold for $630,000; this is the finest known coin for the date. Gold has dropped over $160 an ounce since April 16th, currently at $1,188, and Silver is at $14.68. Proof Silver Eagles in the OGP are trading at $34-$35 each and one ounce Proof Gold Eagles are $1,215. Ninety percent Silver bags are wholesaling at $10,300 and Silver Dollars in VG and better are $21,025.
