Early Twenties Highlight Stack's Bowers Sale

June 25, 2018

Last week’s auction at the Whitman Baltimore Expo hosted by Stack’s Bowers Galleries featured the second finest PCGS Registry Set of $20 Gold. The Fairmont Collection of Liberty Head Double Eagles, from 1850 through 1907 with circulation strikes, included many of the rarest dates in this series. The star of this collection was the 1861 S Paquet in PCGS AU53 CAC which sold for $96,000; this coin is one of 24 coins certified in this grade with just 32 grading higher, and only one of those ranks at the highest of NGC AU58+.
