NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Top Grade 1920 Saint Gaudens Sold at Regency Auction XXV
February 5, 2018
The PCGS Members Only Show in Las Vegas featured the Regency Auction XXV hosted by Legend Rare Coin Auctions, a sale that typically includes top quality coins for the grade with rarity of the utmost importance. Highlighted was a 1920 $20 Gold Saint Gaudens in PCGS MS65 which brought $188,000. This is one of just two coins certified by PCGS at this top grade, and although the NGC population report has one certified in MS65+, it is reported to be this very same coin. In MS64 the Market value is $3,050 and in MS65 the new Market price is $92,500. With this extreme gap, it is likely that buyers will be searching for any MS64 coins that could upgrade to the MS65 level upon resubmission.
