Major Auctions Bring Out the True Rarities

The Heritage Auctions sale in Dallas is an annual event and typically draws a healthy number of bidders, in person and over the internet. The highlight of this sale was certainly the 1861 Half Dollar Original Confederate States of America, certified by NGC as PR40 and also approved by CAC; the selling price was $960,000. This coin is one of only four minted. Below are a few other highlights from this sale.

The Stack's Bowers Galleries sale at the Whitman Baltimore Expo brought out some true rarities that have been off the market for many years. The 1792 Silver Center Cent in PCGS MS61 Brown with a CAC sticker brought $900,000. This is one of fourteen known and the finest is MS67.
