Finest Known 1893 S Morgan on the Block

October 16, 2017

The majority of the rare coin market is currently steady at present levels. While there has been some discounting for specific coins, it appears to be just a matter of some dealers trying to improve cash flow. In addition, CAC and + better date coins are very much in demand and are selling very quickly, especially if they are priced near the current NumisMedia CAC and + levels.
Next up on the major auction docket is Legend’s Regency Auction XXIII, being held in conjunction with the PCGS Members Only show in Philadelphia on October 26th. Many will attend this event just to see the results of two spectacular Morgan Dollars.
The finest known 1893 S Morgan Dollar in PCGS MS67 with a CAC sticker will be available with its historic pedigree, from the Vermeule III Collection to Jack Lee and on to the Coronet Collection. While the rest of the Coronet Collection was sold in 2015, this coin was held back and was being offered for direct sale for $2,000,000.

The 1892 S Morgan in PCGS MS67 CAC also has quite a history; it was part of the Eliasberg Collection and most recently the Coronet Collection. While there is one graded in MS68 by PCGS, it has not been traded (at least publicly) for over ten years. This MS67 is nearly flawless to the naked eye with wonderful toning; the current value for this date with a CAC sticker is $500,000.
