Whitman Baltimore Expo Next on Calendar

July 11, 2016

Summer FUN is over and dealers are headed to Baltimore for the Whitman Expo this week. FUN was fairly busy for retail traffic and dealers are waiting to see if the upswing can be maintained with two major shows in a row. The continuation of a strong bullion market reinforces trading activity for not only the metals but rare coins as well. Gold is holding at just over the $1,350 mark this morning and Silver is $20.35. Metals holding near these levels should be enough to encourage the coin market.
Heritage Auctions hosted the FUN Sale with over $6.5 million in prices realized. Leading the list of highlights were two Pan Pac $50 Gold coins certified by NGC. One was the 1915 S $50 Round in MS64 sold at $88,125 and the other was the 1915 S $50 Octagonal in MS62 at $58,750. Both of these were discounted from the current Market prices which will be adjusted, slightly downward. Below are some of the other highlights from this sale.

With the metals up over the last few weeks some of the bullion charts in the Moderns Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide are showing a vast number of increases. The Modern Eagles chart is literally covered with increases with most advances at least 10%. The common $50 Gold is now up to $1,385 Market in MS69 and $1,555 in PR69. Activity for Buffalo Gold remains steady but advances seem to just follow the price of Gold and premiums are about the same as they have been in recent weeks.
