NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Stack's Bowers Auction Highlights; Long Beach and Heritage Next
September 23, 2013
The Whitman Philadelphia Expo showed mixed results as dealers reported decent activity for wholesale business but the lack of consistent retail throughout made for a slower than expected show. As a result it looks like this will be the last show in Philadelphia hosted by Whitman. With three very successful Whitman shows in Baltimore each year, Philadelphia may be too close in proximity. To further complicate the problem, the coin market is still absorbing the recent ANA Show and two major auctions.
Stack's Bowers Galleries conducted the sale at the Philadelphia Expo and achieved good results. Included below are some of the highlights of this sale. For complete prices realized please contact Stack's Bowers.

The Long Beach Coin and Collectibles Expo is on this week's calendar and it is sure to attract a large crowd. The Expo has scheduled several special events including the ANA Road Show, the S.S. Early Copper Half Cents and Large Cents are showing strength and some dates are higher in this week's LD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide. The 1794 Half Cent increased in AU58 through MS62 with the latter now at $21,750 Market. The 1800 jumped to $4,925 in MS64 Brown and the same date in Red & Brown advanced in MS61 & MS62. In Large Cents the 1793 Chain AMERI. climbed in AU55 through MS61; the AU55 is now at $142,500 Market and the MS61 is $172,500. If any of these 1793 Chain Cents become available on the market they are not likely to last very long because the demand is quite strong at current levels.
Another series that has buyers interested is Standing Liberty Quarters with Full Head. There are a few increases but there is a lot of demand at current levels. The 1918 in MS66 advanced to $2,950 Market and the 1919 in the same grade increased to $2,725. The 1917 TI in MS67 is now higher at $3,450. Buyers are looking for better dates in MS63 and higher while the more common dates are wanted in MS65 and up.
