New FMV Price Guides for CAC and + Designations

February 11, 2013

NumisMedia is proud to announce that we have begun to report FMV prices for + designated coins and CAC labeled coins, both certified by NGC and PCGS. The market has been trading in these two classifications for two years now and there appears to be enough strength and demand to begin the process of reporting these prices. These two categories will be listed online only within the Dealer Price Guides. In order to view these prices you will need to be a NumisMedia Member Dealer or subscribe to the Dealer Price Guides.

When viewing these prices keep in mind that they are very fluid. They will be changing often and sometimes dramatically. Where populations for the highest grades are sparse, prices can be significantly above the regular FMV prices. On more common coins, the spreads will be minimal. We will gather information within all available sources: Coin shows, teletype, auctions, dealer buy/sell lists among other related sources. Since we have just begun to list these two new categories, we will rely on all dealers to provide updated prices in order to help maintain accurate prices. Remember, since these two categories are basically premium quality coins, the prices we list may be just a starting point for transactions. While they are meant to represent Fair Market Value, no two coins are exactly alike and some will have better eye appeal than others and prices will be commensurate with this extra quality.

Many dealers were quite pleased with the sales and attendance at the just completed Long Beach Show. Some even said that it was the best Long Beach show in five years. One dealer noted, "It looks like Long Beach is a force to be reckoned with once again." The market looks very active with U.S. Gold and Silver Dollars leading the way. Several dealers reported that they are seeing new buyers entering the market; many are taking sizable positions.
