Buyers Enjoying Low U.S. Gold Premiums

Potential buyers should be enjoying the recent market because dealers are making a lot of inventory available at current market levels. Many are offering what looks like their entire inventory on the teletypes so other dealers have the opportunity to use these coins to sell to their own customers. This affords collectors a much larger base of combined inventories to locate the coins they need. Buyers can be very selective, and well they should be with so many coins from which to choose.

The updates in this week's HD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide indicate that premiums for U.S. Gold are still at or near all-time lows. Most of the major market makers have so much inventory, they are forced to lower their wholesale prices. Again, this allows buyers the opportunity to add to their holdings at very competitive prices. The wholesale market for common date $20 Liberties in MS63 is currently at $1,940 and this is only $115 over the MS62 grade. The MS60 is $1,790, which is only $50 more than the AU50 grade. It would seem to make sense to buy the higher grades at these tight spreads.

The spreads for the $20 Saints are the same for the AU50 to MS60 grades. The difference between the MS60 of $1,790 and the MS64 grade is only $140 at this time. In this kind of a market buyers might be able to find slightly better dates and better than average coins at reasonable prices. Keep in mind that if you are buying 10 - 20 coins at a time, you are much more likely to get a better selection of dates and quality. For those purchasing one coin at a time, you will probably get whatever is the most common date available.
