Modern Bullion Coins Advancing with Metals
Offers to buy or sell bullion material continue to dominate the trading networks, as it has for about a year now. However, some dealers are increasing the number of numismatic coins they are offering in order to move unwanted inventory and bolster sales. Dealers report the majority of their retail sales are bullion related and collectors are either wanting discounts on coins or they will put their money into bullion for the time being. This has led to slightly lower prices for many of the coins minted after 1930.
The metals have been on the rise lately and there has been talk of much higher levels. This is the main reason that dealers are selling more bullion related coins to customers in this current market. Demand is very strong for anything that is close to melt value as investors are trying to maximize their buying power. This is also the reason that generic U.S. Gold coins are at very low premiums. Many of today's aggressive buyers just want Gold and they are not interested in collector value. What many of them do not realize is they could be purchasing earlier U.S. Gold for virtually the same prices that they are paying for the modern mint coins. This is a buyers' market for common U.S. Gold.
In this week's Moderns Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide there are hundreds of increases for Gold and Silver Eagles, Platinum, $5 & $10 Modern Commems, as well as Buffalo Gold. The same cannot be said for Commem Silver Dollars. The MS70 and PR70 coins are in substantial supplies and active collectors are not as plentiful as in previous months. In fact, the majority of these collectors already have the dates they need and there are still more coins being certified in these ultimate grades, thus increasing the supplies well above the current demand.
