NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
August 22, 2011
ANA Successful by Most Accounts
Higher metals and the ANA made for a profitable event in Chicago last week. Once the Official ANA began, dealers and collectors produced results that most felt were way above average. Most of the business was completed in the first few days, when the serious buyers work the bourse floor. As inventories begin to thin down, business typically slows. Overall, it was a very good show at a great location.
One of the more exciting moments of the Stack's Bowers ANA Auction was the sale of the 1975 No S Roosevelt Dime. This is the first recorded auction sale of this true rarity and it sold for $349,600. It has been a mystery as to how many coins were released and this is one of only two known at this time. This coin grades PR68 by PCGS.
With the metals continuing their rise to higher levels, it is most imperative that you check prices on a regular basis. This morning Gold is already up to $1,885 and Silver is over $43.50. Dealers are having a difficult time keeping up with the changes and many are concerned that they are paying more today for coins sold just a few days ago at lower prices. Dealers need to make sure they cover all sales and balance their inventories.
As you might of guessed, in this week's Moderns Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide the focus is on the series which shadow the metals. Nearly every coin is higher in the Modern Eagles, with the exceptions of the better dates which do not trade all that often. The Modern $5 and $10 Gold coins are all higher with the common Spouse coins in MS70 now at a Market of at least $950. These should be even higher as Gold is up over $30 today.
