Buyer's Market Prevails
Those with money to spend are enjoying the current market because there is more inventory available than there has been in the last few years. Buyers can be very selective and purchase only the coins they feel meet their specific demands. On the other hand, those collectors standing pat may be seeing some of the value of their collections dwindle because of the excessive supplies on the market. Many astute buyers are gauging this current market and are opportunistically adding coins to their collections.
In this week's HD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide you will notice numerous decreases for many dates within the Bust Half Dollar series. The majority of declines are in the dates from 1825 to 1836, in grades Very Fine to MS63. We have seen many coins available on the market and some are very high end for the grade. This has been a very popular series for the last couple of years and prices have advanced considerably. Now, profits are being taken and supplies are plentiful. Coins with original luster and extra eye appeal are attracting buyers. The Wholesale Market for MS63 and MS64 coins has fallen to $1,875 and $3,000, respectively.
Premiums for common U.S. Gold have fallen over the last week. There seems to be more coins on the market although demand appears to be about the same. Many of the most common $10 and $20 Gold have retreated in Very Fine through MS62. Market prices are down for $20 Saints in MS60 through MS65. Wholesale for the MS65 is now $2,000, down from $2,100 a couple of weeks ago. Several Gold Commemoratives are lower this week in grades MS64 to MS66.
