Buying Opportunities Exist
This week’s Classic Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide indicates many changes in the Morgan Dollar section. However, many of the better dates are not available so the increase in wholesale levels is practically fruitless, but dealers feel this is the only way to attract potential sellers.
At the opposite end of the price structure we are finding some discounting of dates normally sold at premiums. Part of the problem is, with annual taxes due, many dealers with large inventories need to raise cash, so discounting is necessary. This can actually be viewed from a positive stance because these dealers made substantial profits on which to pay these taxes. It also usually creates various buying opportunities for the collector. This situation typically balances out by the end of April.
Many U.S. Gold coins are higher since bullion has been on the rise over the last couple of weeks. Premiums are still tight for the common coins but there is activity among dealers. Many retail dealers are also reporting that their customers are buying at these levels. Indian Gold, $5 and $10, is very strong at current levels.
